Quando nel 1933 Sigmund Freud fu informato del fatto che in Germania i suoi libri erano stati bruciati pubblicamente, esclamò: "E poi c'è chi nega il progresso! Oggi si accontentano di bruciare i miei libri, nel Medioevo avrebbero bruciato anche me".
